Candy corn sugar cookies

How stinking cute are these tiny candy corn striped cookies?

I’m going to a halloween party tonight, and I wanted to bring something fun. So I started looking at spooky themed foods and stumbled upon these babies. I couldn’t resist!

You will need:

  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • red food coloring
  • yellow food coloring

First, cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl.

Add the egg and vanilla and beat until combined.

In another bowl, mix together the flour, salt and baking soda.

Add those to the large mixing bowl and mix until you have a soft, pliable dough.

Separate into three equal sized dough balls.

Add a lot of food coloring (or, if you’re cool and have gel coloring (I don’t) you can probably add less) to make one ball bright orange and one yellow. Leave one white.

Line a small loaf pan with tin foil, and press the orange dough firmly onto the bottom. Press the white dough on top of that, and add the yellow on top. Make sure to push down hard to make sure all the layers join.

Stick it in the fridge for at least four hours, or leave it overnight.

When it’s time to make cookie magic, preheat your oven to 350, pop the dough from the pan and cut it into 1/4 inch strips (note: the strips in the picture are about 2x too thick. I ended up cutting them in half again).

Bake for 8 minutes (or until done) and there you go!

You have just finished making adorable little cookies that will be the hit of any party!
