I mean, I was an avid Lego builder my entire childhood, and as an adult I have played every Lego video game, most of them to total completion (100%!). My Christmas Ornament from Kevin was Lego Batman, and I’m rushing this blog post so I can drive to Buffalo and play Lego Marvel Superheroes. So, yeah. I love Legos.
But what to make? Cookies? Cupcakes? My mind went in a million different directions, but finally settled on little cakes made in mini loaf pans and wrapped in colorful fondant. It was 4:30 by the time I got home, and I didn’t have any time to waste.
Cakes, hastily wrapped in a layer of fondant. I wrapped them all and then sat down to smooth them out, close the seams, and glue the little nubbins on the top. Thankfully, I had the lovely Kate helping me out, so it went by pretty quickly.
Even though these were hella rushed, I’m totally in love with them. These pictures were taken directly after gluing the last nubbin (do they have an official name?) on top, so you can see shiny spots on some of the bricks. That’s the water I used as an adhesive and to clean the fondant of excess powdered sugar.
The proportions are off, and when I make them again I’m going to just bake them in a normal pan and cut out the sizes I want. I just wanted to use my mini-loaf pans, mostly to justify having bought them in the first place all those months ago. Quite possibly the coolest part was discovering, while I was taking pictures, that they basically fit together to form a big rectangle. It was unintentional, I was just using what cake I had! But the Lego builder in me was delighted.
Does any other adult get so excited to see a kids movie that they make themed food? And I’m not counting adults who have children.
Or is it just me?
