donuts, doughnuts, homemade, glazed, sprinkles, fried, pioneer woman, easy, dough, frosting, channukah, Hannukah, Chanukah, dognuts

So as always, I'm a little late posting these. They were supposed to be a Chanukah treat for all of you, but just like last year's Latke recipe, I kept convincing myself I had time to post them. I made them early enough, it's just whenever I sat down in front of Lightroom with over 150 photos to sort though and edit I would find something else that needed to be done. Like do some more online shopping, or check how many books I sold in the last twenty minutes, or check the word count on my current book.

You know, important things.

But, enough is enough. Just because I missed out on posting these as a Chanukah recipe doesn't mean they weren't good, and gosh darnit, they are not going to sit on my computer until next year. Because most likely, I will be a much better photographer by then, and so embarrassed by my crude attempt at food styling that I will refuse to post them.

Which, if I could find my archive of photos from a year ago, I'd show you the difference.  ...continue reading

I made these adorable cookies last autumn for a halloween party, and I just couldn't resist making them again. This year, however, I have a year of cooking under my belt, and they came out MUCH better.

Better flavor, better consistency, and the addition of white crystal-like sprinkles added a little sparkle and a fun texture.

The best part about these cookies is how small they are. They are literally bite sized, so you can eat a whole handful without feeling bad about it. Well, too bad.

I mean, I ate like 4 dozen of these by myself and I feel great!

SPRINKLES!!!

But seriously, who doesn't? And when you combine rice krispies treats, sprinkles and just a hint of cake batter, you get the most deliciously amazing dessert, and will be the envy of all your friends.

Believe me, I know this from experience.

I'm not the first to make these, by any means. I got the recipe from How sweet it is, and it looked too perfect to adapt so I left it as is!

So, on Saturday I may have visited a certain TJMaxx, and I may have purchased a set of 100 cookie cutters for only $10!!! Who could resist!

LOOK AT THEM ALL! So, being adventurous as always, I decided I needed to make a huge batch of cookies to try them out. I found a recipe online and started making the dough.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I quickly learned that trying to roll out cookie dough on a hot, humid day is damn near impossible. But I did my best, rolling it out on wax paper like I thought I was supposed to do, then I popped it in the oven!

Soon I smelled smoke. And lots of it. Turns out wax paper is not the same as parchment paper. Who knew? (Remember how new at this I am.) I grabbed the pan before the wax paper ignited totally, but it was nice and singed on the corners. Disappointed, I threw the rest of the dough into the fridge and left to do something else.

I came back later that night, once it had cooled down, to give it another shot. And lo and behold it was a huge success!

Except for a few minor slip-ups here and there...

The countertop needed more sprinkles, obviously

But they turned out SO WELL! And it was a lot of fun. I made dinosaurs (duh!), airplanes, teddy bears, hearts, rocket ships, stars and my personal favorite:

ICE CREAM CONES!!! =) How cute are these?

Now that I have more cookie cutters than I'll ever need, I'm stoked to perfect my cookie making abilities and become the best cookie froster ever.

Yum.
